Custom Christmas Tree Kit Development for School & Home Decoration
How we helped a U.S. brand importer turn a conceptual Christmas kit into a manufacturable product within a limited budget.

Key Highlights
1) First-of-its-kind MDF Christmas kit (tree, wreath, and banner) developed from concept to production with no physical reference sample
2) 10+ design rounds completed to achieve a result that fully met the client’s vision
3) Qualified supplier secured from a highly limited factory pool to meet BSCI / SEDEX / WCA social compliance standards
4) Drop-test-compliant packaging solution developed through direct factory negotiation
5) Cost-controlled execution delivered within a limited project budget
“I could cry. We did it. Thank you so much for all your work on this and for working so closely with the factory. We are so appreciative.”
A well-known brand importer in the U.S.
A well-known U.S. brand importer approached SVI to develop a new Christmas decoration kit for schools and homes.
The concept included a Christmas tree, wreath, and banner, with Christmas-themed elements displayed and printed on MDF boards. Unlike the traditional Christmas kits already available on the market, the client’s concept required a more complex product structure and manufacturing approach.
The client had a clear concept but no physical reference sample to work from. With a limited budget and few comparable products available, the product needed to be developed from scratch all in time for the season launch.

What Were the Challenges
The project showed several challenges that could easily affect both development and cost.
- No physical or market reference sample existed, making specifications difficult to define and align
- The MDF printing and structural requirements were technically complex and very few factories had the capability
- Stringent social compliance requirements (BSCI, SEDEX, WCA with clean wage records) eliminated most potential suppliers
- Without a clear product brief, design iterations risked consuming both time and budget
- Packaging had to pass drop-box testing, an additional engineering challenge on a complex product
What SVI Global Take to Solve the Challenges
We took responsibility for bridging the gap between the concept and actual factory production, providing full-cycle support.
1. Supplier search & compliance qualification
Screened a minimum of five factories against technical capability and social compliance requirements (BSCI, SEDEX, WCA). Leveraged cross-team networks to identify suppliers outside the standard pool. Only factories with clean, up-to-date audit records were considered.
2. Design development from concept
With no reference sample available, we developed multiple design options from the client’s initial concept. Over 10 rounds of design review and revision were completed — coordinating between the client’s preferences and the factory’s production constraints — until a final design was reached that fully satisfied the client.
3. Technical feasibility & cost optimization
Worked directly with the factory across multiple rounds to identify the most viable production approach, reduce unnecessary complexity, and bring costs within the client’s budget without compromising the final result.
4. Packaging engineering
Negotiated and collaborated with the factory to develop a packaging solution capable of passing drop-box testing. This is a critical requirement to reduce the risk of damage during shipping.
5. End-to-end production coordination
Managed communication between all parties throughout sampling, approval, and production at every stage.
