DFM / DFA, Cost-down & Manufacturing Readiness
Improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, cost visibility, and readiness for tooling, pilot build, and production transfer.
Why Early R&D Matters
New technologies and materials may offer significant opportunities, but they can also introduce technical, cost, quality, and manufacturing risk that are far more expensive to address after tooling begins.
Early research and validation provide:
- Better understanding of technical feasibility
- Earlier identification of performance and reliability risks
- More informed material and component decisions
- Lower cost of engineering changes
- Clearer commercialization decisions
- A more reliable path toward production
With structured R&D:
Risks are identified, tested, and addressed earlier.
Without sufficient R&D:
Technical problems may only become visible after tooling, pilot production, or product launch.
From Research To Commercialization
Each project is evaluated with practical consumer product applications, commercial viability, and manufacturing execution in mind.
Our R&D Pathway-Technology and Material Research
- Application Exploration
- Feasibility Evaluation

R&D Case Studies
From material and process validation to custom test-system development and electronics architecture optimization, we combine engineering, testing, cost analysis, and pre-production support.
See the 3 case studies below show how our team helps customers validate new solutions, identify risks early, and create a clearer path from development to commercialization.
1. Architecture-Led PCBA Cost Optimization
Identifying a modeled path to up to 64% lower PCBA cost
Challenge
A customer needed to reduce PCBA cost without sacrificing essential product functions, connectivity performance, power management, or production reliability. A standard component-by-component price negotiation would not have delivered sufficient savings.
What SVI Global Did
SVI conducted BOM analysis, alternative-component evaluation, architecture comparison, firmware-impact assessment, NRE modeling, and volume-based cost analysis.
Rather than focusing only on lower-priced components, the team evaluated whether a different electronics architecture could reset the total cost base.
Result
The analysis identified a modeled opportunity for up to 64% potential PCBA cost reduction, subject to engineering redesign, prototype validation, performance testing, and production approval.
The customer received a clearer business case linking unit savings, engineering investment, technical risk, and volume payback.

2. Material and Process Validation for a Sealing System
Reducing material, sealing, and tooling risk before production
Challenge
A customer needed to develop a sealing solution that could withstand chemical exposure, temperature aging, compression stress, and manufacturing requirements. The project involved both rigid structural materials and soft sealing materials, creating uncertainty around adhesion, durability, flavor interaction, and manufacturability.
What SVI Global Did
SVI developed a structured material-selection and validation framework covering material screening, mechanical testing, chemical exposure, aging, adhesion, compression performance, design-for-manufacture review, and supplier feasibility.
Nine material combinations were evaluated, allowing the team to identify stronger and weaker options before tooling decisions were finalized.
Result
The project narrowed a broad range of material options into practical, test-supported combinations and reduced the risk of late-stage changes caused by sealing failure, material incompatibility, or manufacturing limitations.

3. Custom Automated Lifecycle Test System
Turning a complex user scenario into a repeatable test platform
Challenge
A customer needed to evaluate six consumer devices simultaneously under realistic use conditions, including controlled motion, airflow, temperature, grip pressure, and repeated operating cycles. Standard laboratory equipment could not reproduce the complete user scenario or provide sufficiently consistent test evidence.
What SVI Global Did
SVI designed and commissioned a custom six-device automated test platform integrating motion control, heated gripping, synchronized airflow, temperature monitoring, test fixtures, imaging support, and lifecycle sequencing.
The team also refined the test method through multiple rounds of measurement, correlation, and root-cause analysis.
Result
The customer gained a repeatable in-house test capability that could simulate real-use conditions, generate measurable evidence, and support faster troubleshooting during product development and validation.
